Our popular heirloom Turkey Red hard red winter wheat is now USDA-certified organic!
The history of Turkey Red: In the 1800s, German immigrants from the Ukraine settled in Kansas bringing with them trunks loaded with Turkey Red Wheat berries. For many years, Turkey was the predominant wheat grown in the mid-west until newer, higher yielding hybrids gained popularity. Now Turkey is again being sought after for its unique taste, high protein qualities and the possibility that it may be better tolerated by people with gluten intolerance (non-celiacs.)
Allergy alert: May be prepared in an area that also contains milk, egg, fish, crustacean shell fish, tree nuts, peanuts, soybeans and wheat and wheat gluten.
Protein: 11 %
Test Weight: 60 Lbs.
Shipping, Packaging and Storage
Your wheat will be packed in a food-grade mylar bag after purging the oxygen with carbon dioxide--the same gas used in making carbonated drinks. The bag is then vacuum-sealed. This process helps preserve the grain like it was freshly harvested. The 30 lb. bag is then packaged in a food-grade bucket for easier handling and storage.
Customers from Alaska and Hawaii: due the the high cost of shipping to your states, we will not be able to ship your 30 lb. orders in buckets. We ship the 30 lbs. via USPS in a large flat rate box--and give you an extra couple of pounds of wheat. At this time, we are unable to ship the 40 lb. box to these states. We apologize for the inconvenience.
******We are unable to ship to territories outside of the United States due to extra regulations and costs required when shipping grain.*******
STORAGE: Grains keep best when stored in a tightly sealed container in a cool, dry place.
